Trail: Black Range Talus (Gentle 2km, 100min, 90m ascent)
The Northern Tallaganda is crossed by a series of fire trails that make excellent walking trails, if sometimes indifferent driving tracks. Hiking along fire trails is a good place to start if you are unfamiliar with this area or wilderness hiking (just watch for 4WD utes).
The Black Range Fire Trail is a great place for a short or lengthy walk - and it can serve as a starting point for longer cross country adventures. There are plenty of points of interest within reach of the fire trail.
Along the road are a profusion of rock clumps - some of enormous size.
In early spring, orchids and wild flowers can be found in profusion.
Remember - up here it can get cold quickly, and it is best to come prepared.
