Quodlibet: On Set

One of the fun parts of shooting on a virtual set, is that you get to see the sunrise as often as you like. Here are a couple of new on-set images of some of the scenes being shot for the trailer and pilot (the underlying images here are very large files - if you click any, they may take a little while to load).

Here, our lead is entering the town along the Kings Highway to York, employing a wagon we found and modelled from a contemporaneous woodcut.

With the environment undergoing a radical optimization, time has come to substitute in the higher quality 3D models - including a rebuild of St Mary, based on a series of sketches made of the front of the church before its refurbishment in the 19th century.

We are still torn by the size of St Mary's tower 'pyramids' - the Henry VIII plat suggests these were much higher than the most recent build.

We have also finally been able to load the out-of-town forests. I have lots of favorite places on the set - particularly here, at the intersection of town fields and forest, in an area still called the Huntress Row. Here I sit between animation shoots wondering if this an echo of the Roman Diana and the earlier Greek Artemis, the goddess of wild animals, the hunt, and vegetation? Or does it date from the crusades which first drew the second sons away from home and then took all the others, leaving woman to protect the small towns and hamlets?

I am off to hospital for a couple of days now - back later this week to start shooting a scene involving a violent storm where the sea meets the east cliff - something which should seriously test the set.

Looks like you're having fun and keeping yourself occupied (Not that you ever needed worry about that before.)

Hope your visit to the hospital is short and quick.

Hi Jim
Back out of the hospital, and in the recovery stage. I have spent the last couple of days working with wolves and waterfalls - and slowly accumulating the skills necessary to animate small grains of sand and the tops out of waves. Wish I could send you a little of our cold weather - sounds like another repeat of summer of 1666 over there.
Cheers, Peter

Glad to hear you are coming along and back into CGI. You'd be better off sending your cool weather to the UK and Europe. (I'm in Canada😊)
We've had warmish weather on and off, nothing much over 30°, but lots in mid to high 20°s. Not much rain though.
We're off in 2 days to the north coast of the St Lawrence River in Quebec for about 10 days. Temperatures there have been in high mid-teens due to the river effect.

Cheers Jim
Floods and recovery from hospital are keeping me pinned tight to the ground - which puts me back behind the cameras :) Tight filming schedules are a bit tricky with some of the actors.
Hope Québec was fantastic!
Peter
