Australian Prime Minister - portraits

When working in and around Parliament House I sometimes get into the bad habit of not seeing what is around me.  It is an amazing building - full of amazing artwork.

Today, after meetings and a short trip to the Senate, I stopped and took a series of pictures of the interior of the building.  I also asked the attendants if I could take pictures of some of the portraits.

Clifton Pugh's 1972 winning portrait of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam is immediately recognizable to most Australians.

For those not familiar with Canberra - here is a quick mind blowing 2 minute tour - with some beautiful scenes of the parliament.

Ben Chiefly 1945-49

Bob Menzies 1939-41, 1949-66

Bob Hawke 1983-91

Malcolm Fraser 1975-83

William McMahon 1971-72

Paul Keating 1991-96

John Howard 1996-2007

The new parliament house is superb - but it is not quite what the designers intended.  Here is a 1 1/2 view of what it might have looked like.
